The message

Today when I came home after a flurry of somewhat useless errands, I made my usual rounds, checking the mail, checking the answering machine, distributing snacks to boost the grumpy blood sugars etc.  To my surprise, I received a call from Jamison's teacher and it went something like this:

Mrs. H.: "Hello Mrs. Davis, this is Mrs. Hetherington and I am calling to let you know of a rather unfortunate incident which took place during lunch today."

My thoughts: "Oh no, which bone is broken? how long has he been waiting in the nurses office?  I knew I should have charged my cell phone."

Mrs. H:  "Jamison is really upset because during snack time a crow came down and flew off with his sandwich."

My thoughts:  "What!!?  Is this a joke?  No broken bones?  No hurt feelings?"

Mrs. H: "I have offered to give him money to buy lunch but he is pretty upset and would like you to bring him another dinosaur sandwich."

My thoughts:  "Holy crap, he must be really upset to pass up buying lunch as he begs me to give him money each day so that when he comes home and I ask him what he had for lunch, he will once again say, "chocolate milk and cinnamon toast,"  but no, he wants me to make him another PBJ cut into a dinosaur shape."

Mrs. H: "So if you get this message before 11:00 am could you please bring him another dinosaur sandwich?"

My thoughts: "Shoot....it's 12:30 and my 6 year old son has now experienced his own real life version of the movie, "The Birds."

I then proceeded to call the office to get in touch with Mrs. H to see if I should still bring up a replacement food item and after I explained what happened she said ...."wow...we should put up some scarecrows or something."

My thoughts:  "ya, that would really do the job since the 45 kindergartners running around and yelling aren't enough"

Tonight as I relayed the story to Greg he then turned to Jamison and asked what he was doing feeding all the birds....and of course Jamison responded with a rather assertive "I DIDN"T."

Nice.

Chasing Rainbows

Yesterday we had a torrential downpour and by the afternoon we had a short break from it. With the sun setting it was the perfect opportunity to find a rainbow. It was absolutely stunning and the kids loved twirling their umbrellas in the sprinkling sky.

Kinsey's wedding

My beautiful niece Kinsey, was married on the 14th. I didn't want to be left out of all the fun and I had no excuse why I shouldn't go so I made an excel spreadsheet of all the wonderful people who would be watching my kiddos and flew up to Salt Lake so I could be there for 36 hours only to hop back on a plane to come home. It was such a treat to be able to attend the sealing in the temple and to also be able to hang out with family. They're just too much fun!

Picking Dad up from the Train station

Yesterday we picked Greg up from the train station as he had been in LA for a couple of days. Jamison was enthralled with the whole thing....I guess it's time we took a trip somewhere on the train:)

Genetic need for a silky

Jamison was a binky boy until he was 3. Amy came into this world sucking her thumb and later needed a silky to go with it. Becca sucks her index finger and now too needs a silky. Today while Amy had hers as she was laying on the ground, Becca came over, grabbed a piece of it and started sucking her index finger. Can this be genetic?? Amy isn't always in the mood to be quite so generous so we drove to the fabric store and she helped me pick out material to make Becca her own.

Million dollar hike

Given the fact that our state spent over a million dollars to build a bridge across a muddy lakebed, we decided to walk it. I wish I had a clear picture of Jamison as he was in a stellar slump of grumpiness. It took serious effort on my part to get him to even go with us but eventually he decided he might be able to enjoy himself. I'm so in for it when he is a teenager. To his credit, Greg and I were out late Friday night and so he didn't exactly go to bed on time = serious payback....not so sure it was worth the weekend of suffering the grumpies on steroids.

Curly attempt #2

Now that we have late church the curls just don't last.....still open to suggestions:)

Charm

I can always count on Amy's fun little spirit to always have a good time. I'm not certain a moody moment has ever really prevented her from having fun at a park.

Permanent Smile

Now that Becca is getting a break from incoming teeth, she has been nothing but smiles. Thank goodness. She even got to experience her first swing....I think the kids had the most fun pushing her.

Tire swing anyone?

The only tire swing I know of that still exists is in Felicita park.....sure I've known people to have serious injuries and some motion sickness from it but it's still fun....for kids. Now, if only we could find a merry go round.....anyone? It makes me sad knowing my children will never experience the true headspin from one of those things.

End of season party

Jamison got his first trophy the other night......you'd think he died and went to heaven. He carried it around for the first 24 hours....and polished it several times.
