Every spring Costco sells some seriously fabulous looking kites. I have been suckered into purchasing two....however what they don't tell you is that you need hurricane type winds to be able to get them up in the air. Soooo I ventured off to find the cheapo $2 kites that will actually fly with normal winds. Yesterday evening we took them to my parents' (where up the street I used to fly my kite as a little girl) and successfully flew strawberry shortcake and transformers.....or I should say Papa and Great grandpa flew them....the kids LOVED it and we lived happily every after.
Amy's been having a hard week with the lack of attention so every time we take pictures of the baby, Amy is entitled to her own photo shoot. Of course, following each shot, she must see how it came out.....it's good for encouraging more cute smiles:)
Having been hiding out in our home all week in an effort to keep all the germy germs from invading we were desperate to get out. We headed over to my Mom's for a little retreat. Becca only sleeps if held (much to my dismay) so everyone took turns holding her while I rested.
When we brought Rebecca home from the hospital the kids had a horrendous cough.....which I caught as well. Being the overprotective hormonal mother I didn't want the kids near the baby. Jamison and Amy just wanted to touch and hug Rebecca as I kept envisioning some sort of decontamination process for them. Well, finally after hands were scrubbed and noses blown Jamison and Amy both got to hold their new baby sister.
Thanks to cousin Charlie aka the Easter bunny, the kids had a blast finding eggs. We had a wonderful dinner with both sets of Grandparents, Auntie Ann, Uncle Dave and even my doctor joined us. What a special treat for us our first day out of the hospital.
Throughout my eventful pregnancy I was blessed to have the most amazing OB looking after me. Dr. Moein was not only an incredible friend but she had so much compassion for everything I went through. To top it off she is responsible for saving our little girl's life.
Having the kids meet their little sister for the first time on the 10th. It wasn't exactly how imagined it but they were thrilled anyway. They both had coughs and Rebecca couldn't come out of the NICU yet so their first intro was through glass. They were so cute as they kept saying how sweet she was.
I wasn't able to see Rebecca until the next day. To some it may seem like no big deal but after going through all that drama and then not being able to see my baby was excruciating. I guess I have maternal instincts after all. It was hard to see her hooked up to so many monitors but I was grateful nonetheless. She is perfect.
We anxiously went into the hospital the morning of the 8th to be induced and expected to have a quick and easy delivery. Boy did we have something else in store for us. After my contractions started really coming on my water broke at which point the nurse Diane (pictured below; she held the baby's head away from the cord as we were rushed to the OR,) discovered the umbilical cord was prolapsed. It seems as though everything that followed was textbook after reading about these certain situations. I thought I was imagining things as I replayed the whole scenario over and over in my head. I actually watched the doctor cut me open (kind of crazy) but then I thought....how would that be possible? Apparently they did have me tilted head down which gave me a perfect view of the action. I don't remember seeing them take the baby out but the whole cutting the stomach sure is ingrained. The whole thing happened so quickly and it is probably the most frightening experience I've ever had. On another note, we've witnessed a miracle. The neonatologists were stunned by Rebecca's recovery as her "tone" was the worst the doctor had ever seen. So we owe it all to those of you who faithfully offered continual prayers on our behalf. Rebecca spent 4 days in the NICU where she received wonderful care. The nurses were so compassionate and accommodating as they faithfully brought me my percucet every 6 hours. Who wouldn't love that? All in all we have been truly humbled by this experience and our hearts are filled with gratitude as the Lord allowed Rebecca to come home so soon. She's our little miracle baby.
