First day of school

Jamison woke up around 6:15 on his first day of school. By the time I came down around 7 he was completely dressed and had packed his own lunch. Now if every morning was going to be like this my job would be sweet but all good things must come to an end so I'll ride this wave while it lasts:) Jamison was excited to go to his new class in Mrs. Dastrup's room and surprisingly enough exhibited signs of being too cool to have me there. I was certain I had a few more years before the "cool factor" manifested it's ugly head but apparently it started earlier:( His teacher is wonderful! When he came home I asked him how his day was and if he liked his teacher. He said that when some people were being really bad she didn't yell at them. I then asked what she did to remedy the problem to which he replied, "she just talked to them nicely." Sweet kid. I imagine this observation is a result of his kindergarten teacher who retired a year too late last year and not because of my parenting skills which are stellar. Great start to the school year!

Classroom check

The day before school my neighber Shelley and I decided to take the kids up to the school to show them where their classrooms were. Unfortunately the gates were locked because they didn't want people roaming the halls and distracting the teachers who were busy preparing for the next day. So instead we had the kids sit on the school sign to take a snapshot. I'm sure by the end of the year their toes will be dangling closer to the ground.

Anniversary Dinner

Greg planned our anniversary dinner this year and he chose a definite winner. It was a quaint little Trattoria near Torrey Pines with marvelous food and romantic ambiance. Our attempts to capture a photo of us with my eyes open was fruitless. Later we took our dessert "to go" which happened to be creme brulet cheesecake....(yes you read right) and ate it while watching the sunset. I think it made it taste better:)

San Clemente

Last week a friend and I spent a day in San Clemente and the weather was more than well behaved. Finally we had a beautiful warm sunny day at the beach. I discovered where the best pistachio ice cream is too.....yum!

Friday night beach run

After Greg got home on Friday we headed to the beach where it was completely socked in. So much for hot August weather:) Jamison was crazy enough to go into the water while Amy splashed around in her shorts. Becca enjoyed taste testing all of the salty pebbles.

La Jolla Shores with the Wards

My niece Kinsey and her hubby Clint were in town last weekend so we partied together for several days.  Clint's brother also lives in Poway so we all hung out and had an absolute blast.

Marshmallow tinker toys

Last week we decided to get creative and tried to see what we could make with straws and marshmallows. The kids really got into it....including me. Becca was great at dumping straws everywhere and taking a bite out of each marshmallow to make sure it was going to hold up against our designs.

Lake Poway

Last week my neighbor and I went on an a desperately needed outing to Lake Poway. I am not sure the act of feeding ducks ever gets old. The kids had a blast and it was the perfect distraction from the kids picking on each other.

Drive-in theater

A couple of weeks ago, Greg took the kids to the drive-in to watch Toy Story 3. I planned on going but Becca fell asleep so I stayed home and took one for the team....and watched an episode of White Collar all by myself with no interruptions. The kids loved the movie until the end when the bear goes into the fire. Jamison is insisting on a field trip to the dump just to be sure that they really don't incinerate everything.
